Lead Member Appointment

Following the first Full Council meeting of Lancashire County Council last week, I was appointed as Lead Member for Finance & Resources.

This is a wide ranging role, covering the budget and policy framework, financial services and accountancy, procurement, property and more.

I’ll be working under the experienced leadership and cabinet members, such as Ged Mirfin, the County Councillor for Ribble Valley North East, who is Cabinet Member for Resources, HR and Property, as well as the LCC Leader Stephen Atkinson, who is the County Councillor for Ribble Valley South West, and Deputy Leader Simon Evans, County Councillor for Skelmersdale Central and the rest of the Cabinet.

The previous Conservative administration at Lancashire County Council has left us with over £470m backlog of highways works identified as being needed, with the last year’s £74m highways budget scheduled for over £30m of cuts, as well as a large budget shortfall which is soon to be calculated, but is estimated to be over £100 million. This means responsible budget management and cutting waste wherever possible will be essential to preserving services, while implementing new approaches to improve those services.

I look forward to getting started in the role and I’m optimistic about what we can achieve.
